I'm sure we all know a woman or two who deserve an Oscar for their bedroom performances… a recent Albion Medical survey revealed that over 60 per cent of women deserve an Oscar for their orgasmic performances while with a man (i.e. they have faked it).

Before a genuine orgasm, her chest will usually go flush (like a rash) and her nipples will erect and protrude as they're flooded by a tidal wave of blood. If you can, keep an eye on the lips of the vagina (the labia). They will probably enlarge and change colour to either burgundy or bright pink (although we really don't recommend that you keep looking down to check this). During her orgasm you might also detect tiny contractions inside her vagina. These are big mechanical clues that she can not hide easily.

Don't feel betrayed if you think you've caught her acting. She probably thinks she's doing you a favour and boosting your ego. "Women usually do it to protect men's feelings, or do it to enhance what they want to feel" says Taylor. Look at it as a compliment if she's working harder for your pleasure.

Research shows that women tend to fake it when they are put under pressure, or simply don't feel relaxed. Some women can't even orgasm if they somehow get pulled out of the excitement zone. Others may not want to let you down, or feel inhibited, such as when they feel their performance is being evaluated in some way.

If you aren't sure, then make it comfortable for her to tell you if she'd like to. Do this by asking how you can make sex even better for her, and by assuring that you are ok with her having faked with past partners. Assure her that she doesn't need to with you, and that you care more that she just learn to feel comfortable with you.

The biggest question of all is - why don't you believe her? Suspicion on your part doesn't suggest you have much faith in your abilities. And this is likely because men's sexual performance now appears substandard unless he gets an erection, has an orgasm, AND makes his partner orgasm every time he has sex!
